HR software has come a long way in the last 10 years from those cumbersome first generation HR systems that were really no better than a paper and excel/word based system.
Things have changed now: no matter whether you have 1 or 1,000 employees it is far more efficient to use a HR software system than paper and excel/word.
With a software-rich market at your disposal, the only question that remains is which one?
In this review, I’ll make a strong case for Zoho People – with it’s new and improved user-interface – to be your HR software of choice for 2016. Why?
It’s so intuitive; you can just pick it up as you go
Many of the software systems on the market are powerful, but not intuitive, meaning you need to spend a lot of time reading manuals to find your way around, which busy HR professionals sadly don’t often have the time to do.
Zoho suffers no such problems. While, there is plenty of documentation available, time-pressurized HR professionals will be pleased to know that the new Zoho People interface is intuitive enough that you can pick the system up as you go, without burying your head in documentation. It’s a breath of fresh air in this regard.
It’s simple, logical, lightweight interface design makes perfect sense to the user from the outset, which is great for busy HR staff, who don’t often have the luxury of learning time. There’s just one features menu on the left, from which you can control everything, and where you can quickly locate any feature you need.
But, it’s clearly prioritized to suit typical HR user needs with the most frequently used services – self-service, leave tracker, time tracker, attendance – placed conveniently at the top, and more infrequently used apps likes compensation and reports being placed at the bottom. It’s completely in tune with the way the typical HR person works.
It’s got everything under one roof
It can be incredibly frustrating for a HR professional when the HR system can only handle certain HR processes and the rest have to be handled in an external system. Zoho People’s new interface means that pretty much all the HR tasks can be easily handled within the system. For example:
- As you would expect there are slick interfaces to automate leave and time tracking.
- Also, you don’t need to store your HR and employee files separately, as they can all be uploaded, and easily and securely filed as private or public, and made accessible for employees as needed.
- You don’t need to rush off to PowerPoint for org charts as there is an app for that.
- You’ll never have to lose your exit interview forms again as they can be easily completed in here too.
- Training records can also be maintained in the system, saving HR from having to set up another separate training system.
- Compensation, appraisals and travel expenses are all easily accessible and manageable via the new interface.
Powerful functionality just a few clicks away
Another great thing about this new Zoho People Interface is that you can move around quickly. You can access most features within 1 or 2 clicks, meaning you can fly around the system doing your maintenance at break-neck speed.
Solves HR’s biggest headache
Maintaining leave records has been the biggest nuisance for HR for many years and some could argue that a HR system is only as good as it’s leave management system. The new Zoho People user interface means that after adding your employees and setting up managers your leave system will be pretty much automated between managers and staff, and you’ll be free to view leave reports and focus on more high level HR issues.
Prices start at $190 a year which provides 10 employee logins, 1 admin and 50 employee profiles (non users), going up to $490 a year for up to 25 employee logins, 2 admins and 100 employee profiles (non users). They also have premium and enterprise offering to suit companies with between 100 and 500 employees, making this a very affordable and suitable tool for small and medium sized businesses.
The Zoho People UI is a HR dream, making it easy for busy HR professionals to pick it up quickly and to start quickly managing and automating those pressing, every day HR tasks such as: leave management, time management, file management, training, records and expenses tracking, in no time, without really having to read any documentation. And with just a small amount of reading of user documentation, you’ll also be able to set up and run the performance management and reporting systems. But, overall it’s a plug and play HR system, which is what makes it such a great option for the busy, modern HR professional.
