Profit Sharing Calculator in Excel for Download

Profit Sharing Calculator

This profit sharing calculator contains a smart profit sharing formula which enables you to introduce a profit-sharing plan to incentivize employees to work harder and more efficiently. To implement a profit-sharing plan, the management team must assign a percentage of pre-tax profit for the profit-sharing pool. The funds can be allocated to the staff at the end of each month, quarter, or year, depending on what is desired. The profit-sharing formula in this profit-sharing calculator allows you to distribute profits to employees according to their salary level which should reflect the employees’ position level and tenure-based salary progression. This seems like a fair and reasonable way to distribute this bonus based on the employee’s contribution.

Guidance for using profit sharing calculator:

1.) The pre-tax profit figure will need to be derived from your accounts, accountant or finance team.

2.) The percentage to be shared with staff is variable but this is typically around 10%. Research presented on employeebenefits.co.uk suggests that profit share percentages ranges from 7% to 12% You can modify this percentage.

3.) The profit share for distribution is the profit share pool that can be distributed to staff.

4.) The profit share actual payout is the total of all the individually calculated bonuses and this should equal profit share for distribution,  if the formulas are working correctly.

5.) When updating the salary column we recommend that you use the employee’s actual earnings, (over the qualifying period over which the profit was generated,) excluding other bonuses, commissions and overtime.

This will ensure that employees who join  midway through the year do not earn profit-share for time they were not employed. Since overtime, commissions and bonuses may not be equally available to all employees it does not seem appropriate to include these, but this is up to you.

6.This profit sharing calculator will accept 100 employees but can be easily modified to accept an unlimited amount.
