How Mindfulness Meditation Can Boost Your Career

Mindfulness is a form of meditation that has been part of far Eastern Philosophy for many centuries. It is now making its way into the western world and first began to gain traction in the elite sporting arena with sports psychologists teaching mindfulness based relaxation techniques to Olympic athletics to encourage clearer thinking, better decision and improved performance. British and US elite athletes relied heavily on sports psychologists during the London Olympics.

Mindfulness is now making its way into the corporate world with companies such as Google, GSK, KPMG and PwC all making use of mindfulness techniques in the work-place. So, what is mindfulness and how can it help you or your team in the work-place. Well, its a form of positive meditation and brain training which enables you to make better decisions, more effectively control negative emotions (and even overly positive ones), and to perform better. There are five problem situations where mindfulness can help you and these are when you are:

  1. Distracted and scattered
  2. Annoyed by difficult colleagues, office gossip and politics
  3. Physically worn down by too much tensions
  4. Stuck, (sort of writer’s block)
  5. Frustrated with lack of progress in yourself or others.

And the infographic below explains five mindfulness based meditative practices you can easily follow to help control or manage these problem situations in your own mind. This was prepared by Jeremy Hunt of Mindfulness Magazine and was published in the April Edition.
