Using The Shortlisting Matrix

1:) Enter each candidate’s name in the first column
2:) Modify the existing job suitability master criteria in the top row of the table if needed, which are: Education, Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Behaviours.
3:) Include the job-specific suitability criteria under the appropriate master criteria headings. For example, if a degree is a key criterion for this role, include it under the ‘Education 1’ column, so it can be rated. If they also need an MBA, put this under ‘Education 2’ column. If they need presentation skills, put this under ‘Essentials Skills 1’ and so on.
4:) If certain criteria are more important, you can modify the weightings in the green row. For example, if an MBA is more important than a degree but a degree is more important than presentation skills, you might weight these, 3, 2, and 1 respectively.
5:) Rate each candidate from 1 to 3 with the rating system shown below.
3. Exceeds Requirements – Excellent
2. Meets Requirements – Good
1. Partially Meets Requirements – Acceptable
Certificates, CV data, interview data, and references can all be used as evidence and justification for these ratings.
6:) The total suitability score for each candidate is shown at the end in column ‘Y’. If you incorporated weightings then check out ‘Column Z’ for total weighted scores.
7:) You can sort and rank this data using the filter in the cell named ‘total weighted score’ at the top of column Z. This data can now be sued to shortlist candidates for interview or to make a final selection decision.
