How to Focus on the Things That Matter to You
Do you ever feel as if you’ve never got the time or funds to dedicate yourself to the things you truly love in life? You’re not alone. Whatever the reasons for doing so, many of us have lost focus on what matters most to us.
You might put off doing things or taking time for yourself because of the cost, or you think you don’t have time. However, you could be wasting time or money that would be better spent on other things. Here are some ways you can start making the most of both of these, so you can focus on the things that truly matter.
Save money where you can
Although spending hours looking around for lower prices can defeat the point of saving time and money, it can pay to occasionally check that you’re getting the best prices possible for the products you buy regularly.
For example, if you use a lot of ink for printing, you could check out the hp printer ink offers. They set their prices low and offer free delivery. You could stock up and save money, as well as time because you won’t have to order again for a while.
It may sound small, but over time, you’ll be surprised at how much you save. Finding savings like these will quickly add up and leave you more time to spend on the things you want to do.
Treat yourself
If you’re the kind of person who is always thinking about your family, putting them first, and spending money on them, it might seem a little bit selfish to treat yourself. However, you’re just as important. So, if you have the money and see something that would make you happy, there’s no reason not to buy it. This could be a new top, some make-up, an experience or a bit of pampering, a piece of jewellery or a haircut. Never forget that your happiness matters just as much as the happiness of those around you.
Prioritise your time
If you never have enough time in the day to get around to doing the things you want to do, then make a list of everything you do and rearrange them in order of which is most important. This is likely to be working and looking after your family, but breaking this down, ask yourself if you do too much. Could your older children take the bus to school instead of you driving them? This could give you a lot more time to get ready for work in the morning, and perhaps have a longer shower. Or maybe you always say yes to overtime and don’t get enough time to just relax with a good book. Either way, making this list will help you to discover what’s essential and what’s not. Then you can decide what you’re going to start saying no to, and carve out some precious time for yourself.
Sell the things you no longer use
If it’s money that’s preventing you from looking after yourself, then why not try selling the items that you and your family no longer use? Once you start hunting around the house for unwanted clutter, you’ll be shocked at how quickly it can pile up. These can be old gifts, unwanted clothes, or things that your children are now too old for. Items like this can accumulate quickly and take up a lot of space. So, you’ll make money to get that haircut, a relaxing massage, or a day out with the family, and create more space in your home at the same time.
Ask friends and family for help
If you’re the kind of person who is always running around after friends and family, it might be time to ask them to help you out for a change instead. This could be the occasional babysitting duties from friends or assigning chores to your family to give you more time for yourself.
Most of us have busy lives, and it may seem as if there’s just no time to dedicate to yourself. But if you look at what is actually preventing you from taking better care of yourself, there will often be a relatively straightforward way to free up some time and money.
Write out the things that matter most to you
Writing things out can help to clarify matters and remind you of what’s truly important. Unlike your list of everything you do, the goal of this one is to try and be as succinct as possible. Writing down the things and people that matter the most can offer you a clearer perspective of what should be your focus in life.
Are you putting all of your time and energy into something that isn’t on that list? How can you remedy this? Imagine what you can do with that time when it’s applied to someone or something you love. Lists like this help to shift focus from unnecessary tasks that use up your precious time, and put your attention where it should have been all along.
