Keeping Your Staff Motivated Is More Than Keeping Them Happy

We all want to do right by our staff. It’s only the most cold (and as a consequence unsuccessful,) business leader who pays little attention to their employees. Keeping your staff motivated is something of paramount importance, particularly when busy periods of the year spring up and you really can’t afford to lose any skills. Of course, staff members leaving for any negative reason is a tragedy unto itself, so it really pays to understand how to keep them motivated and content in working towards the goal you have planned out.

Keeping your staff motivated means more than simply keeping them happy, however. Happy staff can be quite ineffective. It’s important to keep your staff motivated with a baseline of being content, as that often allows for a solid balance between comfort and the desire to risk more for better success. The best ways to do this are as follows:

Pride

Every employee wishes to find pride in their work. This can be achieved in a number of various ways. For the most part, the public perception of your brand contributes plenty. Employees want to feel that the firm they work at is well liked, and as an extension the social status they enjoy by working there is of note. You can increase the public perception of your firm in multiple ways. From excellent promotions to subtly injecting brand recognition through SEO services, the more well known and popular your brand, the more motivated your staff are to stay, and to maintain your reputation as something worthy of respect.

Incentives

Staff do wish to turn up to work every day and feel comfortable and happy in their daily routine, but they also wish to feel challenged and to have their skillsets continually developing. In overly comfortable jobs, it’s easy for people to feel as though their skills are fading away. In an attempt to prevent this from becoming a sad reality, people will often look for jobs with increased responsibility, because that generates meaning in a career more than anything else.

You can incentivize staff through pay, and that is absolutely essential to motivate them to take on bigger loads. However, never underestimate the power of trusting competent employees with more work at any one time. So long as they feel their position is being respected and you desire the best for them, they will conduct their affairs incredibly well as to justify your faith in them. They will also be profoundly grateful for the opportunity.

Social

Staff want to feel connected to the employees and colleagues around them. If they lack this, they can easily feel isolated and bored in their work, even if the work does challenge them and afford them pride. This means carefully collecting employees with affable personas. You needn’t stock your firm with the funniest, wittiest and most saintly people in order for the entire team to get along, simply people with a relative sense of humor and the good faith to bond together in times of difficult business intensity.

Duly following this advice should afford your staff more motivation and meaning in their careers than ever before.
