Software Review 2019: Sage Business Cloud Accounts
The first quarter of the year is the time when most of you are choosing to review your accounting and payroll software. There are plenty of options on the market, and so we thought we would take a close look at Sage One Accounting, one of the leading pieces of software in it’s class.
From an interface point of view, Sage Business Cloud Accounts is clean looking and intuitive, and you can get started without having to read the documentation because it’s so user-friendly. This is a real bonus when you need to get moving in a hurry.
The first tasks that you are presented with, (as you would expect), are essential set-up tasks, which are setting up customers and suppliers and monies owed. Customers and suppliers can be imported or added very quickly. You have the ability to set credit limits and credit terms (in days), for customers, and include addresses, contact details and bank details. An aged debtors and aged creditors report will be available as soon as you populate this section.
Once you have whizzed through supplier/customer setup you can set-up and connect your online bank accounts so your business transactions can automatically download to your accounts system on a daily basis. This feature eliminates a huge amount of manual labour. As a big bonus, you can also collect and download data from your PayPal account which is a must for any modern accounting system, since more and more of us are accepting PayPal payments.
With the essentials done you can then make additional extra modifications as required, such as customizing your invoices. This takes seconds. Additional optional features that can prove useful are the ability to assign department, cost or project codes, enabling powerful business analysis.
You can also enable foreign currency transactions, which is crucial if you engage in international business deals or buy from abroad.
And of course, the most important task of all, preparing invoices is made easy in Sage One. In just a few clicks, you can prepare and email invoices to your customers directly from the system, saving you lots of manual labour. It’s much faster than doing it via word and Outlook. As well as this, all your invoices are organized and stored in one place and automatically numbered too.
You won’t find yourself wanting for reports in Sage One. Along with Aged Debtors and Creditors you’ll find reports for Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash-Flow Forecast and Statement, VAT Return, Unreconciled Bank Transactions, Unallocated Receipts and Payments and much more.
Sage Business Cloud combines powerful functionality with ease of use in a sublime fashion, exemplified by the fact that I was able to get up and running in a couple of hours without reading any user documentation. It is mobile optimized too and once you have downloaded the Sage One mobile app you can manage expenses and income on the go.
