Top Tips For Commuting By Train

Let’s face it, spending hours on a train every day can seem like a complete waste of time unless you’re on vacation and seeing new cultures and buildings pass you by. However, whilst being dull, uncomfortable, and nearly always exhausting, the daily train journey may also be a surprisingly valuable “me time” – after all it is a proportion of time set aside with not much else to do. Here are some of the best ways that you can spend your time.

What can you do to make the most of your time on the train?

Read a book

A book can be a train commuter’s best friend, and these days thanks to the abundance of e-readers and various applications available, you can bring a whole library with you instead of just one book. Even though many people still enjoy the satisfaction of holding a tangible book, e-readers and audio books make it possible to read quietly in even the busiest train car, especially if you’re required to stand. E-readers also take up a lot less room in that crammed commuter bag you have on your lap, which is a benefit to everyone!

Listen to Music

Music is excellent for keeping you relaxed and passing the time when you’re exhausted after a long day at work. Additionally, it has the advantage of blocking out all the other noisy passengers! With a variety of streaming apps available on almost all devices, it is now easier than ever before to listen to music on the go!

Do an online course

Is there a skill or language that you have been wanting to learn but often find yourself out of time, or keep putting it off? With apps such as Duolingo, spending 10 minutes a day on the train will go a long way toward improving your memory when it comes to new languages, and you could even sit with a fellow commuter and try to learn together!

Try meditating

How frequently do we find the time in our hectic life to simply stop and do nothing? What better time than to use your morning commute to start or end the day feeling rejuvenated. Why not try actively meditating, which can help to relieve stress and keep you calm and focused for the day ahead. This is also great if there is a particularly annoying individual sat by you – as you can zone out and try to ignore them as best you can!
