What Your Choice In Coffee Tells Employers About Your Personality?
Have you ever found yourself in an interview situation where the interviewer asks you whether, “you’d like a drink” and you answer “yes, coffee?” I bet you thought that this was a pretty innocuous question and answer scenario which barely needed any conscious deliberation.
Well, research suggests that you should be giving conscious thought to what your choice of interview coffee accompaniment says to your prospective employer about your personality? As a study has shown that your coffee choice is potentially revealing aspects of personality to your employer.
In the survey which is described in Doctor Durvasula’s book entitled You Are WHY You Eat: Change Your Food Attitude, Change Your Life, the researchers asked 1000 coffee drinkers questions about their coffee choices and their general behaviour and found correlations between certain coffee selections and certain behaviours/personality types as shown below.
You can see the summary table below and the key findings were that:
- Black coffee drinkers were more purist and liked to take a more simple straight forward approach to things but were more set in their ways and resistant to change. They could also be quiet and moody.
- Latte drinkers were looking for comfort and were more freely giving of their time, e.g. people pleasers, but they tended to be more neurotic.
- Instant coffee drinkers were procrastinators, laid back and more traditionalist, but were poor planners.
- Decaf drinkers like being in control and were more perfectionist and obsessive, but could be more sensitive and worry more.
- Frozen/blended coffee drinkers were socially bold trendsetters who liked trying new things.
