Finding A New Job When It’s Time To Move On

Everyone’s career can vary depending on what industry you may be in. Perhaps you’ll stay in a job for a couple of years, and then move on whilst others join a company and stay there for the majority of their adult life until they retire. There’s no wrong way of doing it so if you are looking for a new job then here are some tips!

Don’t Jump Too Soon

So you may be at a point in your current job where you are just sick and tired of the role. That can cloud your judgement slightly if you are offered a role and it ends up not being quite what you expected. Don’t jump too soon from your old job to the first one that’s offered to you (unless it’s what you want of course). Take your time with the process and trust your instinct when it comes to saying yes or no to a job.

Think About Your Future

This next career move may have an impact on your future plans, depending on where you are in your life at the moment. Perhaps you’ve just gotten married and want to start a family, or maybe you have plans to work and then go travelling for a year. It’s useful to factor in any plans you may have for your future so you can consider what requirements you need from a job like your paycheck and working hours to suit your lifestyle.

Consider A Career Change

It may seem daunting, especially if you’ve been doing it for years or had your heart set on it from day one but the reason behind you wanting to move on might be because you want a complete career change. If that’s the case then it’s worth noting down everything you love in life, what you think you’re good at, and then you can start researching the jobs that fit what you are after. Obviously, you want a role that suits your skill set and talent, so try to avoid going for anything that might be out of your reach.

If it is, then consider the route of getting some additional education and training so that you have the skills needed.

Be Prepared With Recruitment Agencies

A recruitment agency is going to want to get you in, find a job that’s similar to what you want and get you assigned as quickly as possible. So it’s good practice to know exactly what you want and do not want, for your next job. Pick a couple of agencies, to begin with and make sure that your CV is updated and that you’ve thought about what you need. That way, when you get on the phone with the recruiter or into their office, you can assert your wants and needs before they start going off on a tangent.

Finding a new job can always be a little daunting, but as long as you plan and think it through, you’ll be heading into your next role with ease.
