Is it safe to put stickers on your laptop?
Do you have a weak spot for laptop stickers, but are a little hesitant to try them out? Are you worried that they might impair your laptop or pose safety hazards?
In this article, you will find all the information you need to put your mind at ease. We will address your concerns and give you everything you need to make an informed decision and use your laptop stickers worry-free.
Know your materials
There are two things you need to keep in mind: the material the outer shell of your laptop is made out of and what your stickers of choice consist of. Laptop shells are usually made out of plastic or metal, both ideal for almost any type of sticker material.
Stickers come in slightly more choices, but at the most basic, we can distinguish between paper and plastic, or vinyl stickers. Paper is great for short-term indoor uses, and it is usually biodegradable, which is amazing. Plastic-based stickers are more durable and can resist scratches and water. Vinyl stickers come in many different effects, a great way to let your design sparkle. Both can withstand temperatures up to 80°C.
There are no special materials needed in order for a sticker to be classed as a laptop sticker, so you do not have to go on the hunt for special materials. The only thing you need to look out for is the adhesive strength. We recommend using a medium-strength adhesive, which is the standard most stickers come with. Some sticker makers offer industrial-strength adhesives, but these will likely create more harm than good to the shell of your laptop.
An added layer of safety
Stickers can actually protect your laptop. Just think about it, you probably keep your laptop in a bag or backpack. There, it is very likely to experience the odd bump or come face to face with a leaking water bottle or a not-so-airtight food container.
Stickers can help prevent such scratches or function as an extra protective layer around your laptop, especially when you have sticker bombed it. This is the process of covering an entire surface with stickers until it becomes practically invisible.
If you want to give this trend a test, make sure to not put stickers over the outlets or air vents!
Remove them within seconds
But what if you want to remove the stickers from your laptop? Will they leave stains? Or maybe even destroy the shell?
No, there is no need to be worried about adhesive residue. Stickers with a medium-strength adhesive, like vinyl stickers, can easily be removed without leaving any adhesive residue. And even if they did, this can quickly be removed using an alcohol-based cleaner or even a brake cleaner.
This allows you to switch up the look of your laptop as many times as you would like to, completely risk-free.
Hopefully we were able to address some of your concerns and help you make a decision on whether laptop stickers will work for you. Should you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment. Are you already a convinced sticker fan? Then we would love to see your creations in the comments.
