There are a number of successful people who have studied IB. Here are a few of the more high profile graduates of the International Baccalaureate:
Jorma Ollila
Businessman Jorma Ollila completed his IB qualification and went on to achieve a Masters Degree in 3 different subject areas. Ollila has since gone on to achieve great things in the world of business, and is the former CEO of Nokia; often given credit for Nokia’s success when they were the world’s largest handset manufacturer. Ollila’s success did not end there though. After leaving Nokia in 2006, he became the first non-Dutch/British Chairman of the Shell corporation.
Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands
Willem-Alexander is the King of the Netherlands, and at 47 is the second youngest monarch in Europe. Willem-Alexander achieved his IB diploma and was subsequently involved with some of the biggest organisations in the world before becoming King he was a member of the International Olympic Committee, which organises the winter and summer games every 4 years. In conjunction with this he was also the chairman to multiple international water management organisations.
Douglas Alexander is a British Labour Party politician who studied at one of the officially registered International Baccalaureate schools. Following this achievement he studied politics and modern history at the University of Edinburgh where he achieved a first-class degree. His success did not end there, as Douglas is Member of Parliament for Paisley and Renfrewshire South, and the current Shadow Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
Marina Diamandis
Marina Diamandis is a British musician who is probably best known as the frontwoman of Marina and the Diamonds. Diamandis studied the IB diploma in Greece and has since gone on to perform at some of the biggest live events of the British music world summer, including BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, the Reading and Leeds Festivals and the Glastonbury Festival.
Julie Payette
Julie Payette completed an IB diploma in 1982. This put her in a great position to achieve her dream of becoming an astronaut. Julie underwent a vigorous selection process by the CSA from which she was selected as one of four astronauts from a field of 5,330 applicants in 1992. Julie has spent more than 25 days in space and was the chief astronaut for the CSA and has also worked for NASA.
Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita Nyong’o is a actress and graduate of the IB program. Since graduating she has become a worldwide star and ws the recipient of the 2014 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Oscar award winning movie 12 Years a Slave.
