What Your Choice Of Tea Says To Employers About Your Personality

I recently wrote an article titled, ‘what your choice in coffee in an interview situation can reveal to an employee about your personality‘. It was based on a scientific study. Not only was it quite popular, but several readers queried as to whether there was a similar study on tea drinkers. Well, I have just found a study on tea drinkers and personality. Actually, it’s not a study as such and its a little more lightweight than the coffee study which did actually look at over 1,000 coffee drinkers.

This tea study is more of a lighthearted look at tea personalities which was developed by Tetley tea in conjunction with behavioural expert Judi James. She developed tea personalities for a variety of tea types and suggested that tea drinker personalities would correspond to the personality of tea they drank. She does not appear to have tested her theories like in the coffee experiment, where they asked coffee drinkers personality based questions, but I have nonetheless summarized her thoughts below.

Black Tea. Warm, friendly, and generous type who likes to share. Family values are important to them.

Breakfast Tea. Likes to kickstart their day, so they have a busy lifestyle/career which is full of challenges, goals and deadlines. May be more practical and down to earth.

Green tea. This suggests a cutting edge modernist. They may like change and lead an active and healthy lifestyle.

Redbush. This suggests someone who is passionate and emotional and possibly outspoken. They may be energetic and enthusiastic.

Peppermint/Camomile tea. This tea drinker is a forward thinking minimalist who doesn’t like fuss, clutter or chaos.

Fruit tea. Can be quirky, spontaneous and fun loving and life is never dull for these types.

Earl Grey. Slight air of old fashioned refinement. They may be cool, classy, elegant and have a degree of charm and might like things to be done ‘properly.
